DEHYDRATORS? What Types Are There? Which Are the Best?
A dehydrator is a device that removes moisture from fresh products such as fruits, vegetables, herbs, meat, fish, and mushrooms to preserve them for a long time and extend their shelf life. The dehydrator uses heat and air to extract moisture from the products while retaining their beneficial properties and nutritional value.
Dehydrators can be conditionally divided into several groups:
- Vertical airflow dehydrators - older models (those where the fan and heater are located at the bottom of the dehydrator, and warm air passes through the trays from the bottom to the top).
- Tunnel or horizontal dehydrators - modern dehydrators (those where the heater and fan are located beside the trays with products for dehydration, and warm air simultaneously and evenly heats all the trays).
- Dehydrators with a mechanical temperature regulator (knob) - older models
- Dehydrators with a digital thermostat and a shut-off timer - modern (SUSHIMO)
An important characteristic of a dehydrator is:
-
- the volume or total area of the trays for dehydrating products.
- material - metal or stainless steel dehydrator (we have just such ones!)
- the ability of the dehydrator to restore the drying cycle after a power outage according to the preset program from the point of interruption (SUSHIMO can do this)
- the ability of the dehydrator to keep the product dry after the drying process is completed. This is important if the dehydrator finishes the program at night, and the product may absorb moisture or condensation (SUSHIMO can do this).
